  • MOVIES


    I watched almost FIVE movies this weekend.  Each of them fell into their own unique category:


    “Movie based on a book that I should’ve read in high school, but didn’t”


    The Scarlet Pimpernel –  A classic.  I enjoyed it thoroughly!  The guy who played the Scarlet Pimpernel was HI-larious, and Jane Seymour looked AMAZING (though her hair was a ratty fro most of the time).  “SINK me!”


    “How could I have lived so long without having seen this movie?”


    GANDHI — of course, he was an INCREDIBLE person, but this was also an INCREDIBLE movie.  Ben Kingsley (who I learned is half-Indian, half-Jewish) was AMAZING.  WOW.  It’s very long….and I am really interested now in the history of British occupation (remember when I was at the Taj?  “This used to be gold… but the British government took it”)… WATCH IT.  WATCH IT. It will change your life.  REALLY!


    “What a waste of a good story!”


    Rumour Has It– I felt the same way about Monster-In-Law (hilarious story; terrible movie).  In this movie, a woman finds out her family is the basis for the movie The Graduate.  I am a tentative fan of Jennifer Aniston, but she was just… BLAH.. in this movie.  Shirley MacLaine, as usual, was hilarious.  Kevin Costner was surprisingly ok.  Waste of Mark Ruffalo, who is normally excellent but not very interesting in this movie. 


    “I probably shouldn’t like a movie like this, but…”


    Wedding Crashers – I like comedies like this… which are stupid, but ultimately have some heart, and a happy ending… despite having a totally ridiculously inane premise (Dodgeball is another example).  I also love Vince Vaughn and was charmed by Rachel McAdams.  Christopher Walken is OH-SO-Hilarious and I was pleasantly surprised to find a certain Will Tippin playing a very different role in this movie.  And Will Ferrell’s cameo.  The crude parts of this movie were totally unnecessary and could’ve been left out.


    “WHAT? I don’t get it.”

    I ? Huckabees     – I started watching this movie and was thrown off by the f-bombs in the beginning.  Then I was fascinated by Jude Law, who was obviously trying REALLY HARD to speak in an American accent.  Lily Tomlin and Dustin Hoffman make a funny pair, but I started nodding off during this movie. I just… didn’t…get… it.   And so I couldn’t finish it.   I was also surprised to see Mark Wahlberg in this.
