I accompanied two Cornell alumni to Ithaca this past weekend .. made me SUPER nostalgic for my dear alma mater…

Janet, on the far right, was going to a wedding.

… I am very excited because this weekend, I have the opportunity of shopping at TARGET in NEW JERSEY.

Okay, so in Uzland, we saved any and all kind of plastic containers for second, third, fourth use…

Here, we throw away plastic things without even thinking about it!

There, in Uzland, we actually DID have uses for plastic containers, as we didn’t have very many of them.

But here, ESPECIALLY, in NYC, I am OVERLOADED with plastic containers, forks, knives, etc, etc… since NY has such an extensive take-out culture.

So what to do? I already feel like an old lady with a file cabinet full of plastic stuff that I want to reuse at least a FEW times before throwing them away.  I also have a bag FULL of napkins. 

Even as I type, I have a plastic bag next to me full of containers… and I do plan to just throw them all away. One container I could use again – but I already have, like, 1000000 of these containers already.  The other two – definitely need to be thrown away.

Dang.  Just call me GARBAGE lady.

Had a great time this weekend, hanging out with friends, old and new.

(despite Michigan’s RIDICULOUS loss to Oregon.  What is going on!?!?!?  SO disappointing.)

First, a mini baby shower for dear friend Rebekita who is about to (and I really mean that) give birth to her 1st in a few weeks!

Podunk is L-O-V-E-L-Y for tea with girlfriends. It’s on 5th street, near 2nd Ave.  Though when we got there at around 11:30, there was a young guy in there by himself, having tea!

Now, the little boy above, Isaiah, had mixed feelings about me.

And the two of them were enjoying each other’s company:

• I love the fact that I can walk to work! Except that now, I don’t have time to read the paper.


• And I don’t read the paper on-line. Never.Will.Do.That.


• Found a great new cafe on Lafayette called Cafe Falai.  I love the decor – all white. The guy behind the counter was so funny – after he had wrapped up my croissant and given me my coffee, he said, dramatically “have a WONDERFUL day”.. in a very cute accent.

• Got to visit City Hall today.  It’s the oldest continuously operating City Hall in the country!  Didn’t see Mr. Bloomberg, however. (not that that would matter. I am but a cog in the wheel of the government…)


• Despite the story I had heard about someone making buns in China and stuffing them with cardboard, I had a bun with pork and cabbage at Fay Da Bakery in Chinatown.  It was yummy! I sat down next to this CUTE older Chinese couple who were chatting away. I could tell they were talking about me when I first sat down because I heard something that sounded like “Korean”.. but then they went back to their conversation.  They were really really cute.
