arg, tagged again. i'll post in my next entry. btw, i'm also reading the end of poverty. great book.
Was "The End of Poverty" a good book? I've been wanting to read it.
1. Number of books I own: Holy crow, I've no friggin' idea. I still haven't unpacked all of my boxes!!
2. Last book I bought: hmm, it was either "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini (I know, I know - they sell it in Costco, it's on the NY Times list, blah blah blah, but it's still a pretty good book, and as soon as I finish my magnum opus, if anyone dares call it populist pap I'll come down and lecture you) (to the extreme), or "Everything and More: A Compact History of Infinity" by David Foster Wallace.
3. Last book I completed: I think it was "The Dark Tower VI: Song of Susannah" by Stephen King.
4. Books that mean a lot to me: interesting question. There are some books that elicit a visceral sort of reaction from me - like, for example, I've had the same little Bible with me every day except for one over the past 20 years or so, the one that has "Tae Kim's Demon Whacker" inscribed in green permanent ink on the inside cover. Or other books that have been enormously fun adventures of thought in history and science, like Neal Stephenson's Baroque Cycle. Or others like Stephen King's Gunslinger series that at times seemed lamely self-indulgent, and at other times were so crafty a postmodern blend of genres that I wanted to punch him in the arm, really, really friggin' hard. Or others like "King Lear" or "Hamlet"... or the "Autobiography of Malcolm X"... or or or....
5. What I'm currently reading: well, I've mostly been trying to catch up on journals and periodicals. I can't even keep up with the New Yorker and Harpers! Let's see, what's on my bedside stand: the Bible, "The Zombie Survival Guide" by Max Brooks, "Counter Intelligence" by Jonathan Gold, "Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim" by David Sedaris, and "Dude, Where's My Country?" by Michael Moore.
fun!
