  • "Christmas" activities so far:

    Party with kids (and parents)...

    Ladies tea...

... at a classily decorated home...

... and a not so classily decorated tree...(mine)...

... I did it on purpose, people.

One interesting fact about Christmas here, especially for those who believe in it - many of the things that symbolize Christmas - the evergreen tree, St. Nick, presents, etc, etc... were all associated with the New Year in the former Soviet Union.  But now those who celebrate Christmas see how these things, which we (westerns) sometimes think have commercialized Christmas, have special meaning... they can for us, too, if only we choose to remember it for that.

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

  • that's so interesting how folks there, in shifting the symbols from one holiday to another, have a better sense of their meaning than those of us who have celebrated or accepted them as Christmas symbols all along.  by the way, what in the world did you put on that tree?  i think i recognize the paper-woven heart from a previous picture -- one of your friends made it right?  are those white things snowflakes?

  • your tree looks nice. it's not as bad as mom's tree that one year with the pearls. remember?

  • Happy international holiday! Happy Chrismahannuramakwaanzadiwalikwah!

  • Is it bad if I don't know you at all, but Danie told me to visit your site because you are nice enough to keep a blog (nice, by the way), and then I comment, even though I don't know you and would actually just like you to relay a message (although, after this point I suppose we are aquaintances and I could comment to you too)? (Yes, that was a question)

    Think about it.

    Hi Danie.
