• Weddings

  This summer is a slow one for me as far as weddings go - only 4 for me this year... but a friend of mine recently asked me some questions about weddings... (i've been to around 30 weddings so far in my life...  I think that's probably average, right?)

  
  

  What have you learned from going to all these weddings? 

  
  

  -- the more you plan ahead, the less stressed you'll be on your wedding day.  everything still might not go perfectly, but at least you'll have everything ready.

  
  

  Have you been in many? 

  
  

  -- I've been a bridesmaid in four weddings. The one I remember the most is my friend Misti's.  She asked me to be a bridesmaid at the last minute.  I flew down to N. Carolina, and the dress didn't fit so someone had to tailor it.  Just as we were finishing, the zipper broke, and the tailor had to SEW the dress on me. WILD!  To get it off, we just .. .rrrripped it off!

  
  

  What is the most interesting thing you’ve seen at a wedding? 

  
  

  -- At Yo'm Paul's wedding in Chicago, both his parents walked him down the aisle. That was cute.

  
  

  What was the worst thing? 

  
  

  -- at one wedding, one of the bridesmaid looked back at the audience in absolute HORROR as the reader read "wives, submit to your husbands"... 

  
  

  What was the most fun wedding you’ve been to? 

  
  

  -- every wedding has their own fun!  but good music + a little bit of wine = lots of fun.

  
  

  Recently, at my cousin's wedding, my sister and the brother of the groom did a dance off.  That was amazing.

  
  

  What was the most irreverent wedding you’ve been to & why? 
  On the scale of irreverence (1 being lowest, 10 being highest) what irreverent thing rated at marker?

  Other memorable moments/notes/trivia:

  
  

  - When I worked for the City of New York, we all had to be part of the Emergency Command Station staffing schedule.  This meant that one weekend out of the year, we would be "on call" in case there was some emergency and therefore you weren't really supposed to go out of town.  Well, turns out that my friend was having his wedding around 1 1/2 hours away from the City on the day that I was on-call.  But you think "what could happen?"... so I went anyway.  Of course, I get out there... and I get a call... the Con Ed station had blown up and I had to drive back to the City to help out.  I drove back out the next day and celebrated at their post-wedding brunch...

  
  

  - UZ weddings are always memorable, especially the dancing!

  
  

  - Learning how to bustle a VERY expensive and beautiful V. Wang dress.. (it was a bit nervewracking at first, but I was able to do it on the wedding day!)

  
  

  - Indian weddings are so crazy and so fun.

  
  

  - The groom rapping to the bride at the reception... and it seemed like a perfectly normal thing for a Korean-American man to do...

  
  

  - I've been to TWO weddings at the same reception place.  Actually, I went to a wedding and then recommended the reception hall to my friends who also had their reception there! (NY)

  
  

  - The pastor giving a sermon called "men are like waffles; women are like spaghetti.."...

  
  

  - I LOVE CHINESE WEDDING BANQUET FOOD (especially mayonnaise walnut shrimp)
